Despite our silence we’ve  had a rather productive winter creating a brand new soundtrack to a brand new film. Actually, it’s 81 years old, but it’s new to us and you.

So, it’s time to prepare yourselves once again for everything from Bach to 70s Disco. Yes, we’ve gone disco, brace yourselves.

The new film is called Piccadilly and was made in 1929, making it one of the last silent films to ever be made. We debuted it at Liskerrett Hall earlier this month and felt it went really well (despite illness in the group).

We’re now looking forward to our next performance at Menheniot Village Hall on March 27th  at 7.30pm (tickets £7 from Menheniot village shop, or at the door).  After that we’re in Looe at the Barbican Childrens Centre on June 11th. We should also be at the Port Eliot Festival in the summer. We’re in the process of booking/finalising more dates at the moment, so make sure you check back soon for updates.

Our 13 track album is, as always, available at performances for a mere £8. So if you like the music as much as the film don’t hesitate to ask one of us for a copy.

This year has seen great things for the band, we’ve ventured into the world of weddings, continued to perform our silent film soundtrack, and really developed ourselves as a professional band.

We’re going to tuck ourselves away for a few months now and work on a new soundtrack to another film. We’re excited and already looking forward to performing it in March for the Liskerret Film Society.

At the end of August we played a fantastic gig at St. Germans Quay Sailing Club in honour of the RNLI. Space was at a premium but fortunately we all get on rather well, so it wasn’t a bother.  We had some fantastic dancers as well (thank you if you were one of them) and a fabulous evening was had by all.

September has been busy with a gig almost every weekend (two in one case) and we’ve been enjoying every second of it.  At the start of the month we played within the grounds of the beautiful Port Eliot Estate for a local fundraiser, the view was possibly the best we’ve had at a gig:

The very next day we shipped ourselves off to the South Hams for the nuptials of Lil’s sister Glad and other half Richie (Congratulations again guys) and were treated not only to a wonderful day, but a great gig in the evening (again complete with dancers).

So that brings us back to present day. Tonight we head out to St Ives to perform Sunrise at St Ives Art Club for the St Ives September Festival (just to clarify, it’s in St Ives). We’re really looking forward to playing it once again, it’s been a couple of months since we have and we’ve all missed it.

The Bowling Green tent was our home on both Friday and Sunday. Both performances went really well, the latter was a tad damp, but hey, it was a festival, we embraced it!

Saturday the 4th of July saw us play 2 gigs, one at St. Germans Carnival and a second at a wedding reception.

I must point out that we in Wurlitza take our responsibilities seriously and dedicate ourselves entirely to our performing commitments. So of course it was only right that we, the members of Wurlitza together with our staff and support team, entered into a silent retreat for 3 days prior to the gigs, thus allowing us to meditate and ponder upon the tasks ahead.

Yeah, ok, maybe we didn’t do that……

We decided to have our practice in the village hall to test HOW LOUD WE COULD BE!! And also learn what it’s like to play in a room that echoes when you breathe. The results were interesting, it was hard work playing in such an environment, but we did it and we learnt from it, which was the point really.
